FAQs

Why do I see a member of Dr Clare’s Herbal Team for my first appointment?
Dr Clare has developed a team approach to helping you with your health problems. In her experience most patients need ongoing treatment over several months and teamwork covers more ground. It also works out less expensive for patients.

Every person in Ireland should have the choice of well trained herbal medicine practitioner care. By using a team approach more patients will have this option.

Can I see Dr Clare for follow-up appointments?
Yes, that’s fine. In our experience while this is an option not all patients choose this. All the herbalists on the team have the same Herbal Medicine BSc Degree as Dr Clare and are experienced practitioners. Where there is a very complex medical history or a patient requires wider GP care they are referred to Dr Clare by our practitioners.

How do you work as a team?
We have a clinical meeting for case review every month.
We work as a team for researching and updating herbal and clinical medical issues relevant to practice.
Herbal Prescriptions are dispensed from our dispensary in Galway. This avoids duplication of effort and frees time for clinical practice.

What can I expect from my first appointment?
During your first appointment your herbalist’s assessment includes:
What are your current health problems?
Past health problems
Family illnesses
What do you eat? From shopping trolley to table (and all the other bits!)
Any current medication or supplements
Allergies
Clinical examination such as Blood Pressure, enlarged glands, joint examination etc.
Investigations may be advised.

How many times will I need to see the herbalist?
Each person is unique and will have an individual plan. However a rule of thumb is that you will a benefit from a minimum of one month’s treatment for each year you have been in poor health. Usually you will consult your herbalist every 4 weeks as adjustments will be made to your treatment depending on your response.

Who else is on your herbal team?
We work closely with our nutritionists as optimum nutrition is a key part of learning how to improve your health. Our nutritionists are qualified to teach you how to look after your health with good food. They will also advise you regarding food supplements that may be beneficial.

We will refer you for other therapies as clinically indicated.
